INDIVIDUAL THERAPY
Gender dysphoria is a diagnosis that describes the distress associated with the incongruence between assigned sex and gender identity. This pathologizing approach fails to acknowledge the experience of dysphoria, such as physical or social role dysphoria, or what I call "gender dysphoria noise." This noise can lead to anxiety, depression, and isolation.
I will provide a safe space for you to dive deeper into the profoundly personal and vulnerable feelings of dysphoria. I can help you explore what your gender means to you and what, if anything, you may want to do about it, including accessing medical care and letters for surgery. I do not believe there is a "right" way to explore your gender, there is only the way that is right for you.
I am an anti-racist, anti-oppressive clinical social worker. I address intersectionality, systems of power, and privilege in my work with clients. I do not utilize traditional modalities such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) or dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). Modalities such as CBT and DBT can be tremendously beneficial and effective interventions for clients, so I am happy to provide referrals to therapists who can offer those services to you.
